Consider your garage door as an important part of your home. Perform the suggested maintenance on it and it will provide you with carefree convenience for many years to come. We recommend that you have the garage door inspected by a qualified Toronto Garage Doors installer at least once a year. For your own safety, never attempt to adjust the springs, the lower hinges, or the hoisting cables yourself because of, the inherent risk associated with the large amount of tension in the springs. Once a Month

Check to be sure door opens & closes fully. Adjust limits and/or force if necessary - see door opener owner's manual. The door must reverse on contact if a person or object is under it.
Some areas of the garage door panel that seldom receive the benefits of rain washing are prone to a build-up of contaminants which can lead to corrosion of the material. To avoid this wash the door and windows with a mild soap (such as car wash soap or dishwashing soap) and water, car wax can be used for added protection in corrosive environments. Wash both interior and exterior. Rinse thoroughly. Do not use harsh or abrasive detergents. Doors with timber finishes should be cleaned and maintained according to the timber finish manufacturer's recommendations.

Twice a Year

Check chain tension. Disconnect trolley first. Adjust if necessary referring to the garage door owners manual.

In addition, lubrication with a silicone or Teflon-based spray is recommended twice yearly for the following hardware: pulleys, rollers, hinges and springs. ALWAYS keep remote controls out of reach of children. NEVER permit children to operate or play with garage door control push buttons or remote controls.
ONLY activate garage door when it can be seen clearly, it is properly adjusted, and there are no obstructions to door travel.
ALWAYS keep garage door in sight until completely closed. NO ONE SHOULD CROSS THE PATH OF THE MOVING DOOR.
If possible, use emergency release handle to disengage door ONLY when garage door is CLOSED. Weak or broken springs or an unbalanced door could result in an open door falling rapidly and/or unexpectedly.
NEVER use emergency release handle unless garage doorway is clear of persons and obstructions.
NEVER use handle to pull garage door open or closed. If rope knot becomes untied, you could fall.
If one control (force or travel limits) is adjusted, the other control may also need adjustment.
After any adjustments are made, the safety system MUST be tested.
Safety reversal system MUST be tested every month. Garage door MUST reverse on contact with 40mm high object on floor.
ALWAYS KEEP GARAGE DOOR PROPERLY BALANCED (see door owners manual). An improperly balanced door may not reverse when required and could result in severe injury or death.
All repairs to cables, spring assemblies and other hardware, all of which are under EXTREME tension, MUST be made by a trained Toronto Garage Doors door technician.
ALWAYS disconnect electric power to the garage door opener before making any repairs or removing covers.
